Runaway Bay, once though of as the northern end of the Gold Coast, is really now considered more a part of the central Gold Coast. The suburb is home to some of the Gold Coast's most popular canal living thanks to bridge-free access to the fabulous Broadwater which allows yachts uninterrupted access to the Pacific Ocean. The Gold Coast Broadwater and Seaway is at your back door making this a popular area for boating. There are a number of public boat ramps and a wet and dry marina. Runaway Bay was conceived in 1967 when a 182 development site was purchased by Lae Enterprises. Development started in 1972. Runaway Bay is North of Biggera Waters and South of Hollywell, it's Eastern boundary is the Broadwater.
