Bundall derived its name from is a deviation of the Aboriginal word for a species of prickly vine. The locality was originally established by British landowner Edmund Henry Price in 1862. Prior to Europeans settling, the
Gold Coast consisted mainly of heavily timbered hills, flood plains and wet lands. The local Aboriginal people referred to Queensland's South-East coast as 'Kurrungal', a name derived from the Aboriginal word for "endless supplies of timber", which was used to make boomerangs. A local tribe was the Kombumerri, who generally stayed in the Bundall area to take advantage of the fresh water resources. The Yugambeh people also inhabited the region, settling mainly in the valleys and near estuaries, noting landmarks and naming areas such as
