If you’re looking for somewhere to go for a Sunday drive the road from to Nerang to Canungra, via Beechmont and Lower Beechmont provides some of the most beautiful scenery in the Gold Coast Hinterland. To get there, take the Beaudesert-Nerang Road from Nerang and continue along the Nerang-Murwillimbah Road where the Beaudesert-Nerang Rd turns right as you leave Nerang. The next right hand turn is Beechmont Road. You will head up a steep incline towards Lower Beechmont. There’s a nice coffee shop and café at the general store on the corner of Loop Road. This is a popular stopover point for the many cyclists who ride up and down the hills of Beechmont, especially on weekends.
You will now head towards Binna Burra.

Along this portion of the drive, the views are nothing short of spectacular. You will see the Hinze Dam to the left, which is the main water supply for the Gold Coast. Beyond that on a clear day, you may see Cunningham’s Gap, Flinders Peak, Moogerah Peaks and the D'Aguilar.

Between Beechmont and Lower Beechmont, there is a launching pad for hang gliders, Rosins Lookout at Beechmont which is about 1.5hrs drive from Brisbane. The Beechmont Community Hall and Graceleigh Park which is an area used at present by children and other community groups for a range of community activities. It includes the ANZAC memorial, playing fields, tennis courts and some old buildings, included public toilets.

When you reach the roundabout, you can turn left to go to Binna Burra, or turn right to go to Canungra. Shortly after that you will pass the highly regarded Beechmont State School.

As you make your way down the mountain you will enjoy views across Flying Fox Valley, Ferny Glen and Witheren.

It takes about 15 minutes to wind your way down Beechmont, on the way passing the old Yurunga Dairy Farm which operated for nearly 100 years from the early 1900’s until 2006. The Farm Grove Estate is opposite Yurunga Farms which was in recent years broken up and sold off in individual lots.
